“GOTO”, the most loved and most hated command of all time. People forget that today’s entire digital world still rests on machine instructions like JMP, JE, JNE, and JG, which are essentially the same as goto. I guess it is acceptable as long as humans do not see it.

Shoutout to my dad who typed a BASIC program into an Atari 800 from my '80s kids' magazine. We were frustrated it didn't work!
The next issue included a correction that they printed the program wrong!
I started on a Timex Sinclair 1000 with 2K RAM in I believe 1982... somewhere around there. Eventually I managed to save up enough summer working money to buy a Commodore 64 for myself. 😀
Fond memories. I wrote an entire accounting system in BASIC for a large department at the university. Very much enjoyed the project and the pay was good.
I wrote my first BASIC program back in the 80s. I was lucky because my brother (6 years older) was getting lessons in programming. I was 8 and fascinated. It was not anything “cool” / all we had were CGA screens, so it was some silly boring ascii graphics stuff.
This is all it took for me to begin a lifelong love affair:
10 CLS
20 PRINT "What is your name?"
30 INPUT N$
40 PRINT "Hello "; N$; ", nice to meet you!"
50 END
And it worked. What else can I do, I thought.
