Oh yeah! My custom C64 renderer has given the boys at System 3 a run for their money.

2968 bytes now!
Optimisation day, I think. 3353 bytes (which includes the graphics in that total) of 6502 ASM to get to this point. Let's go sub 3K. #C64 #ScreenshotSaturday

Started writing my own graphics engine on the C64 about a week ago and borrowing some Last Ninja assets to see how it performs. Turn out, it performs very very well! 😃 Presently 3555 bytes for the program and 1790 bytes for graphics. Still things I can do better to save RAM.

Really... What's it matter how people are going about programming their games, as long as they are enjoying what they do? #GameDev #IndieDev

Raise your hand if you are coding in assembly language and not slacking off using some higher level language. 👋
raise your hand if you're not vibe-coding a game engine

Trying to work smarter, not dumber in C64 ASM. 😂 I keep re-inventing the wheel, but hopefully this will be for the last time. (Famous last words)

Interesting... I vibe coded a game for the C64 and it worked perfectly the first time. Agreed, it's crap and not going to win any awards. But the fact it was able to do it at all is impressive.

Exactly this. Even today computers estimate the value of something simple like "1.0", double precision has it more looking like "1.000000000001" or "0.999999999999".
Anyone that reads just the first chapters of Mike Abrash's Graphics Black Book knows how we seldom find best (or even good) solutions for some problems and everything is basically a bunch of compromises or coarse approximations or straight out lies that look "acceptable."

Then they do the double click and drag manoeuvre and you end up with fifteen of them.

Can you solve it? 🧠 Make 731 smaller by moving just ONE matchstick.

Decided to go old school today and make a C64 style software renderer. What game should I attempt to recreate? #ScreenshotSaturday

Pretty much how mine went last week.
