The NIFHA Annual Conference is only 4 weeks away ⏰ 📌
Our agenda is packed with a fantastic and varied range of speakers and topics.
At a time when pressure on the department and our sector has never been greater, delivery through partnership will be key and we’ll be joined by Minister @gordonlyons1 to discuss our ongoing collaboration with his department to continue delivery.

On Wednesday our Chief Executive @SeamusLeheny was interviewed on @UTVNews highlighting the challenges in delivering new social and affordable homes by the end of 2026/27. Our sector is capable of delivery, but we must be realistic that challenges exist
Today we’re at the annual @SDLPlive Annual Conference in Belfast with our team engaging in a range of housing issues.
This included a joint fringe session with @CIHNI chaired by @MarkHDurkan examining the barriers to housing delivery.
We were very saddened to learn of the passing of Stephen Walker @StepWalkTV. Stephen was a familiar face for our members in recent years chairing both our Finance and Development conferences, which he did with his trademark charisma, professionalism and good humour. It was a privilege for us to have worked with him.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.
The repopulation of #Belfast city centre continues with this proposed plan for 170 Social & Affordable homes. Great to see life being brought into streets long neglected & even better, it replaces previously proposed student accommodation for the site 🏗🏢

A big advantage with the Housing Association model in NI is that they can leverage private loans (at their own risk) and combine with grant funding from @CommunitiesNI to build more social & affordable housing. Getting that balance right is critical.

Good to see refurbishment work progressing on Durham House near the city centre, been an eyesore for way too long and a nusiance to local residents. Has planning permission for 39 apartments.
The number of households waiting on a list for a social home has now passed 50,000. That number means there are tens of thousands of families living in unsettled accommodation and waiting for the Housing Executive to fulfil it's legal duty to provide a home for them.

New research launched at Stormont shows homes must be planned with services, infrastructure and community support so neighbourhoods across Northern Ireland can thrive. #SustainableCommunities

Fascinating look back to 50 years ago when we were targeting the building of 8,000 social homes per year!
The point re integrated housing shows how things have improved & progressed today, but we still lots more to do

We're at a point that most people on the housing waiting list can only dream of securing a social home.
More afforable rental and ownership options is one way to tackle the list from one end of it
