🔑 RECRUITING TIP OF THE WEEK
🏈 UNDERSTAND HOW COLLEGE COACHES EVALUATE ROSTER NEEDS!
Prospects and parents, being good enough to play college football doesn't automatically mean every college program has a spot for you.
One of the most overlooked parts of recruiting is understanding how college coaches build their rosters.
A program may genuinely like your film, athletic ability and academics but still decide not to offer because of its current roster needs.
🔴 HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND:
1️⃣ EVERY PROGRAM HAS POSITIONAL NEEDS.
A college might need three offensive linemen but only one running back in your recruiting class.
That doesn't necessarily mean the running back isn't talented. It means the program has different priorities.
2️⃣ RETURNING PLAYERS IMPACT RECRUITING.
Coaches evaluate their returning starters, backups, incoming freshmen and potential transfers before determining where they need additional talent.
3️⃣ THE TRANSFER PORTAL CHANGES THE EQUATION.
College programs can address immediate roster needs through transfers, which may affect the number of high school prospects they recruit at certain positions.
4️⃣ YOUR VERSATILITY CAN CREATE OPPORTUNITIES.
If you're capable of playing multiple positions, make sure your film demonstrates those abilities.
However, don't claim you can play a position unless you have the skills and film to support it.
5️⃣ ASK COACHES DIRECT QUESTIONS.
When communicating with a program, ask:
"Coach, are you actively recruiting my position in the 2027 or 2028 class, and what qualities are you looking for?"
That question can help you determine whether the program is a realistic recruiting target.
🎯 PARENTS, PAY ATTENTION!
Don't automatically assume a program isn't interested because your athlete hasn't received an offer.
Sometimes the issue isn't talent. It's timing, roster availability or positional priorities.
📋 YOUR ASSIGNMENT THIS WEEK:
Research five college programs you're interested in.
Look at their current roster, players at your position, graduation classes and recent recruiting activity.
Then contact the appropriate coaching staff to learn whether they're actively evaluating prospects in your class.
