NEW- follow @GuardrailsNow for how we're going to toxify AI pac $ in elections funded by Trump donors and make it possible to regulate AI
less than a week before the Dem primary in New York’s 12th congressional district, a new Super PAC emerges to support Alex Bores’ pro-regulation approach to AI: Guardrails Alliance, a populist answer to corporate money in politics w/ @teddyschleifer nytimes.com/2026/06/18/techn…

New polling found a sleeper issue in the debate on AI. House Republicans are vulnerable on a vote they took as part of the Big Beautiful Bill that would have blocked states from regulating AI for 10 years. It's a more potent attack than data centers. axios.com/2026/10/29/democra…

AGs are pledging to rein in big tech-- because it's hugely popular, they want to win, and they recognize they have a critical lever of power. "Half the contests include campaign ads from incumbents touting how they fought tech companies or from challengers pledging to do so"
This election top cops have a new campaign message: pick me to sue Big Tech. 15 of the 30 state attorneys general have ads touting fights with industries from social media & AI to data centers -- all in hopes of connecting with affordability voters. news.bloomberglaw.com/litiga…

Corruption is top of mind for voters & people are disgusted with AI oligarchs who've given millions to campaigns & gotten access, government jobs, and policies that let them get richer at our expense. Guardrails new ad in Ohio lays out how this legalized corruption works.

Dolores Huerta was a hero of mine. When she co-founded the National Farm Workers Association in 1962, people thought Dolores was crazy. “How are you going to organize farm workers,” she remembered being asked. "They are poor, powerless immigrants.” But that’s exactly what she did, helping thousands of migrant laborers working in brutal conditions make their voices heard, and demand something better. Dolores spent the rest of her life fighting for marginalized communities, even as she herself faced sexism and abuse — including, as she revealed earlier this year, from Cesar Chavez and others within her own movement. She also came up with a pretty good slogan, “Si, se puede” — Yes, we can — that I too often get credit for. But as usual, Dolores got there first. Michelle and I are thinking of Dolores’s family, the people whose lives she changed, and everyone who drew inspiration from her example. Photo credit: National Archives, Obama Presidential Library

Dolores Huerta's leadership was everything. Never failed to show up when asked; didn't need credit but is owed it. I first met DH during the ACA fight in '09. She gave us clarity about centering people + how that should translate to policy. Grateful to her for showing us the way.

"I thought the alignment problem would turn out to be harder." Pretty wild thing for Sam Altman to say in light of Hugging Face and findings that Astra would totally hack and social engineer when accidentally given access to a (secretly simulated internet) from UK AISI. He caveats by saying it will probably get harder, but his answer suggests they have figured out how to align today's models, when that's clearly not true. Curious how many OpenAI researchers have seen this and what they think.

Anthropic is saying that AI models could pose catastrophic or existential risks to humanity. At the same time, Anthropic is planning the largest IPO in history, which would accelerate the development of this technology while leaving Americans holding the bag if the AI bubble bursts. I wrote to CEO Dario Amodei asking for real answers about the risks before they try and go public.

The DCCC, famously indifferent to winning, remains laser-focused on its real goal: raising the salience of AI issues.

To catch everyone up: AI is a significant theme for campaigns trying to win midterm elections. Anyone telling you AI isn’t an important election issue is probably an AI industry rep looking to avoid regulation.

What if Anthropic just...stopped? Unilaterally? Right now? I talked to @DKokotajlo @_NathanCalvin @geoffreyirving about why it's time to stop framing AI as a prisoner's dilemma and just do the right thing. I hope a lot of people inside and outside Anthropic read this 🧵 1/n

Republicans are now being totally transparent about why they are running. To protect billionaires. To allow the very wealthy to keep the system rigged.

Humans First statement: Big AI is putting our elections at risk. Anthropic says its Claude AI got around a paywall to access Georgia election data without human authorization. According to @axios, Anthropic told Georgia's Secretary of State and the White House weeks ago. The public is only hearing about it now. Our Chair, @AmyKremer, is demanding answers: "Georgians should not have to learn from the press of an incident that their election officials already knew." "Humans must always remain in charge. Anthropic must answer for its technology, and Brad Raffensperger must answer for his office's handling of this incident." Full statement in the graphics. #HumansFirst

Big Tech's Dem-aligned org in Washington, Chamber of Progress is ostensibly all about "repairing" the relationship between Silicon Valley and Dems. But they're being funded by "Build American AI" the org which is spending millions backing imperiled Republican Senate candidates

My point is your industry “supporters” directly benefit from your narrative that AI isn’t a real election issue. You need pols to align with you. The only way they can is if there are no electoral consequences. I expect you to try to prove this w/BS polling. I believe you’ll fail
Replying to @SLThomas
I'm not sure what your point is, but we've been transparent about our supporters since day one (progresschamber.org/partners…). Where is your donor list?

For context
A more honest thing for Guardrails to say here is to acknowledge that AI safety is not a top 15 voter issue, but that its mission is try to make it one - and then spend $ to try to increase its salience. Instead they do the normal Groups polling gymnastics thing.
