Everything microtubules, movement and microscopy. ARC Future Fellow @AIBNatUQ & @IMBatUQ (formerly @UCSF Wittmann lab alumni)

Australia
Excited to announce…..it’s finally arrived (!!) nature.com/articles/s41556-0… A big thank-you to my team (particularly @robertr33), co authors & #FutureFellowship funding from @arc_gov_au Importantly- a big shoutout to @drDJVDavid @NatureCellBio for their support. 👇tweetorial 👇 #VivaLaMicrotubules 🎉
Buckle in, it is #microtubule cell migration story time! We reveal a new role for microtubules as cellular sensors which detect and respond to compressive forces, enabling movement and ensuring survival in mechanically demanding environments; just like this little guy squeezing through here. 1/10

Hey y’all 👋 I need a little repost magic. 🔥 The Solecki lab is recruiting MULTIPLE postdocs for a chromatin imaging project at St. Jude. This work sits at the intersection of live-cell imaging, neuronal cell biology, chromatin regulation, and quantitative image analysis — and the eye-popping video below shows exactly why it’s so exciting. This may be for you if you are: • A neurobiologist who wants to become DANGEROUS in cell biology 🧠 • A chromatin biologist who wants to ditch endpoint molecular biology and actually watch nuclear states unfold in living cells 🧬 • An imaging scientist or biophysicist who wants to get messy in real cells, not idealized samples 🔬 A quantitative mindset is required. Prior experience in every area is not. If you ever imagined touring the nucleus like nuclear render and our Pol II biosensor below… reach out because WE can do it. Tag a scientist who needs to see this + RT to help us find them! 🚀 Let’s make chromatin biology history.

Today I'd like to honor the memory of my mentor and friend, Roger Tsien, born 1952 February 1. Today would have been Roger's 74th birthday. Most know Roger for his 2008 Chemistry Nobel Prize with Shimomura and Chalfie. Roger made GFP into the versatile imaging method it is now.

From 3D imaging to therapy Using our DISCO tissue clearing and whole organ 3D imaging platform, we revealed skull to meninges microchannels connecting calvarial bone marrow with the brain borders in mice (Cai...Ertürk, Nature Neuroscience,2018, bit.ly/vdisco). We then extended this biology to humans, discovering distinct skull bone marrow programs and structural skull meninges connections in health and neurological disease (Kolabas...Ertürk, Cell, 2023). Now, a new study reports a first therapeutic application of this route: intracalvariosseous (calvarial) injection of drug loaded albumin nanoparticles to “hijack” calvarial immune cells, which then migrate via skull meninges microchannels to CNS lesions, bypassing the blood brain barrier and improving outcomes in stroke models, with encouraging clinical feasibility data (Gao et al., Cell, 2026) We are proud that DISCO enabled biology that is now turning into concrete therapeutic strategies for devastating neurological diseases. More to come. #DISCO #TissueClearing #Neuroimmunology #Stroke #Nanomedicine #DrugDelivery #BBB #CNS Refs (for linking in comments): Cai et al.
