Honey is a familiar home remedy to ease a child’s cough, but its effectiveness compared with over-the-counter cough medications is debatable. A meta-analysis of six randomized, controlled trials provides insights. @ACheungDoc shares the key results: jwat.ch/4hWVZuz

Things We Do for No Reason – PCR for Lyme Disease Diagnostic Testing 🆕💥🟢 Retrospective cohort study Among this cohort of patients over a 2.5-year period in a Lyme endemic area, B. burgdorferi PCR testing had a considerably low positivity rate of 1.9% (17/885) despite substantial utilization. Positive PCRs only resulted from synovial fluid specimens and the positivity rate for this specimen in this cohort was also low at 5.4% (17/315). Additionally, 11 of the 17 positive PCRs did not influence management because treatment had been initiated based on the already available mTTT results. #IDXposts academic.oup.com/ofid/articl…

· Open Medicine Algorithm Spotlight · Sharing a practical @OpenMedicineHQ algorithm “Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor(ICI)–Related Hepatitis: Evaluation, Management, and Rechallenge” (Last updated TODAY: October 30, 2026) Key points: - ICI-related liver injury is frequently asymptomatic and detected through routine laboratory monitoring. It may occur during treatment or after ICI discontinuation: is a diagnosis of exclusion. - Hepatotoxicity due to ICI therapy often presents as a hepatocellular pattern of liver injury consisting of asymptomatic elevations in serum alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase. A cholestatic (ie, elevated alkaline phosphatase and/or total bilirubin) or mixed pattern of injury is less common. - Approximately 20–30% of grade 2–4 cases may not improve with initial high-dose corticosteroids and may benefit from biopsy-guided reassessment. ** If there is clinical concern for infiltrating malignancy of the liver, or those whose diagnosis is unclear = consider biopsy. - The decision to resume immunotherapy (in grade 3 or 4 cases) requires balancing the risks of recurrent adverse events against the responsiveness of the malignancy to ICI, the availability of effective alternative antineoplastic agents, and whether ICI therapy was used alone or in combination with other antineoplastic agents. #OpendMedicine @OpenMedKate @OpenMedicineHQ LIVING algorithm: 💭 myopenmedicine.com/algorithm…
