I had a lot of fun writing this month's content for laurawebbcpd.com The focus is on sequencing participation in English, and how we can maximise student attention and learning through purposeful sequencing. Then I put my writing into AI to create visuals, like this ⬇️

What if the science of reading could help us figure out WHY students struggle with complex texts—and what to do about it? What if the answer wasn't more isolated skills practice? ;) 2 weeks until Team Up With the Text hits bookstores! Preview + PLC guide: stevechiger.com/team-up/

NEW Lend me your ears: how should we teach the class novel? Most English teachers read the class novel aloud, and for weak readers it’s the only way into the book. But being read to doesn’t make anyone a better reader. On the dilemma of teaching the class novel, and how to get the best of both worlds daviddidau.substack.com/p/ho…

I’ve tried to make the sources and questions for a mini English Language P2 assessment more accessible for one of the classes I teach by placing everything on a single A3 page. No need for flicking though stuff. I’ve also used more generous spacing and numbered every line 📝

Exciting news: we’re one month from publication day for Team Up With the Text, my new book with @paul_bambrick! We know isolating reading standards isn’t a particularly fruitful or research-supported way to teach comprehension. But what should we do instead? 1/3
