“self improving apps”
This “self improving apps” idea is something I think we’re going to see a lot more of in the next few years.

I have been hearing about “self improving apps”. If it depends on AI, I don't think the juice worth the squeeze.

É tão bom, mas tão blm, que se a gente não te forçar a usar vocês não vão usar. Vocês são muito burros de não quererem usar esta maravilha que eu criei. // Tive um trabalhão pra tirar a porcaria do Gemini do meu celular Android novo
Copilot fazendo escola. O desespero também é estético.

Estou falando com você também, Notewise. Eu não quero sua IA. Eu já paguei pelo que quero, peguem meu dinheiro e usem bem.

If you’re wondering why Amazon $AMZN is junking 2-3 year old $NVDA H100 and H200 chips (storage or destroying) instead of selling them… the answer is simple… If a flood of H100 and H200 chips hit secondary markets it would absolutely destroy hyperscalers revenue.
By $AMZN own admission (as did $MSFT), the rate of depreciation of $NVDA GPUs is far faster than prior to Ai. “The shorter useful lives are due to the increased pace of technology development, particularly in the area of artificial intelligence and machine learning.” They’re basically junking old H100 and H200 in warehouses and replacing them with new generations due to power restraints. Ie rotating in Vera Rubin to replace older generations that had a real life of 2-3 years. The worst part is, the paper depreciation is over 6 years, meaning that even while many GPUs were actually physically depreciated in 2-3 years, the losses from that still haven’t shown up on the balance sheet even while not generating revenue; those losses are being spread out over an additional3-4 years. Now $AMZN just saw its operating income peak, and it’s about to reverse in a very way with its recent exploding Capex spending set for depreciation… Amazon saw depreciation rise to $9.2 billion vs $5.6 billion YOY for Q3. A 64% increase. Next quarter comes the BIG depreciation costs to hit operating income (reversal), with true negative operating income to hit in late 2028.

Still too much
Less than a month ago, OpenAI was looking to raise “at least” $30 billion at a valuation of $1.4 trillion. Today it raised $11 billion at $1.25 trillion valuation and faced “tepid” interest.

AI Overview damages Google ad revenue, stock crashes 12% pivot-to-ai.com/2026/10/29/a… I am not sure Google had a choice. Maybe they are happy with this result because otherwise more people would be using LLMs from other vendors as search tools.

This is a universal pattern. People will ask almost everyone for an answer except the person likely to know. Some of them have begun to turn to AI. Now they won't even ask the AI. People massively overestimate basic curiosity. That's why "everyone will learn from AI" is bunk.
My friend made a really impressive app. It's live and has users. He has no idea where it's hosted.

I don't see HCI as CS research at all. It's using science, and it's using computers, but CS is a math field, not science.

Hello @elonmusk and @tylercowen , You have just decided to publicly attack our research, six days before the vote on the California billionaire wealth tax. Your attempt to discredit our work and that of our numerous academic colleagues is pathetic. Let’s take a look. 🧵

My favorite example of this kind is 2-coloring: P 3-coloring: NP-complete 4-coloring: Constant time

The 3 vs 2 really got to me, too. I remember first spending a while on a construction for 2 as a homework, and then spending another while (not homework, but SHOULD HAVE BEEN!) figuring out why it didn't work for 3. First part destroys intuitions, second part builds new ones.
3SAT in subexponential time (2^{n / log^eps(n)}) is maybe the biggest surprise I have seen during my 20 years following theoretical computer science (still remember the feeling 25 years ago seeing the diff a 3 versus a 2 can make for complexity 😅)

this tweet of my mine was too generous and the latest OpenAI result needs some context. read @LH’s comments below for that context.
a big deal if correct.
