United States
Unpopular opinion: there are a lot of entrenched interests that just want to protect the status quo at any cost. Like mathematicians not wanting to solve math, and healthcare workers not wanting to improve access to care or cure diseases more quickly.
Unpopular opinion: most people do not want AI.

Still one of the craziest statistics ever: 4x more people die every year from lack of air conditioning in Europe than are killed with guns in the US

Our best chance of curing cancer, Alzheimer’s, etc,, isn’t doing the same thing we’ve been doing for the past 100 years. AI will give us our best shot.
there will be within the next few years stunning advances in biology. there will whole new ways to think about what biological study even means. i would be only mildly surprised if there were near term solutions to problems like cancer, neurodegenerative disease, etc

You need to understand that the United States of America is already the world’s largest socialist welfare state. We spend 3.5X more on entitlements than we do on defense.
The final 2026 US budget is out… One of the great political moves by the left in recent years has been convincing a large portion of America that we don’t already spend the vast majority of our money on healthcare and entitlement programs.

The problem is that these people THINK they are in the real estate investment business, when in reality they are in the hospitality business.

Airbnb knows they’re losing a lot of business to hotels solely because people do not want to be bothered to have to clean the entire property when that is not a requirement of any hotel

BREAKING: The average cost of a family’s annual health insurance premium in the US is up +$1,303 YoY, or +5%, to a record $28,303. This marks the 4th consecutive annual increase of at least +$1,300. Over this period, the average annual premium for family coverage has surged +$5,884, or +26%. To put this into perspective, CPI inflation has risen +13% over the same period, or half as much. Since 1999, the average health insurance premium for a family has soared +$22,494, or +387%. This represents an average annual growth rate of +6.1%, well above CPI inflation at +2.6% over the same period. Health insurance has never been more expensive.

I’m telling you, this is coming for every degree program, including terminal degrees. The bloat is real.
3-year degrees are gaining momentum. NYU President Linda Mills: “Universities are due for another evolution: offering 90-credit, three-year bachelor’s degrees in fields that demand immediate workforce development.” “Four years of college is not an inviolable standard.”

I think every single degree program is probably 20 to 30% longer than it needs to be and can be cut substantially. Universities extend degrees so that they can make more money and create jobs for professors and departments that have no organic demand for their classes.

Something fishy going on in Ohio! Before the gas tax cut Ohio was $.20 below the national average. Immediately after the cut had dropped to $.52 below the national average. Now 18 days later Ohio is $.12 above the national average. Someone please explain.

Dying of summer heat because politicians banned air conditioning in the name of climate change. The “fix” is literally the thing killing them.
Climate change killed 32,000+ people in Europe this summer. Trump believes this crisis is a "hoax." Republicans in Congress are following their "Great Leader.” NO to Trump’s fossil fuel agenda. YES to creating millions of jobs by moving our energy system away from fossil fuels.
