NEW: The Israeli government is paying for ads on Ted Cruz's podcast. Cruz can't take the money himself. But, under an unusual licensing deal, those foreign funds can go to a super PAC dedicated exclusively to Cruz. Let me explain (1/7)

Farmers are in trouble because of tariffs and soaring fuel and fertilizer costs, due to Trump’s trade war and Iran war respectively Read my latest @RStatecraft - and watch out for rising food prices in the coming year because of more of the same!
When a war 7000 miles away is raging, big agribusiness here in US is much less sensitive to fluctuations in cash flow and input costs. Smaller and mid-sized farms have much less room for error. @solis_mullen responsiblestatecraft.org/fa…

After Israel killed seven World Central Kitchen aid workers in April 2024, Biden had a tense call with Netanyahu. That month, Israel reopened the Erez Crossing, and more aid trucks entered Gaza than in any other month of his presidency, according to UN data. @blaise_malley reports: responsiblestatecraft.org/br…

Brett McGurk's new book "Brink" tells the story of his efforts to free the October 7 hostages. In it, he argues that pressure on Israel only emboldened Hamas and prolonged the war. But several former Biden officials challenge that narrative. My latest for @RStatecraft (1/6):

Notable 1) Underscores continuity in Biden-Trump policy for ongoing Palestinian suffering + reluctance to pressure Israel even for stated US goals 2) Interesting read on who’s got reach in the party: within admin, Greenspan was close to Brett McGurk + upset Gaza policy skeptics

New analysis finds that US has faced the most costs from the global Hormuz oil shock
New from me: The US has faced a higher cost than any other country from the global Hormuz oil shock, with the crisis adding $160 billion to its fuel bill — or $471 per person on average — despite being the world’s largest oil producer.

This must read article by Margaux McColl is not only an x-ray profile on Xtend CEO Aviv Shapira but an incisive peek into today's Beltway Banditry, set at a Washington Commanders football game. Doesn't get any more vivid.

Aside from the shocking substance of this story, what's amazing is how it was unearthed by Cole. The short version: The Russians were able to penetrate Jared Kushner's iPhone and extract screenshots and data. Then, a Russian intel official was captured by Dutch intelligence (!) and flipped. The Dutch believed Kushner may have been acting on behalf of Russia, so pursued him as an intel target and were able to get into his phone. They did not find any evidence of Russian collusion, instead they watched him moving hundreds of millions of dollars from slush funds created by Saudi Arabia and the UAE, one of them housed in Israel's central bank. Incredible reporting, and if Democrats have any sense, they will pull on these threads and learn a lot more about this money.
Explosive story many years in the making, now out in Vanity Fair by Matthew Cole (who will be on Breaking Points next week, and publishing soon in @DropSiteNews): Saudi Arabia and the UAE set up multi-billion slush funds for Jared Kushner to use. Iran-Contra 2 here (except with Iran-Contra, at least the US got some hostages released. Not clear what we got out of this one.)
