"Let's rock 'n roll!"... things white middle-aged men say to their family after paying the bill at a restaurant.

Picard taught me more about leadership than any MBA could. He never raised his voice to be heard. He listened before he decided. He let Riker, Data, Worf argue him out of positions, and then owned the call completely. When he was wrong, he said so in front of the crew. When he was right, he didn't gloat. And when he had to stand alone — against Starfleet, against the Borg, against a Cardassian with four lights — he stood. That is the whole job. Build people who will tell you the truth, then carry the weight yourself. Patrick Stewart played it so well that a generation of us mistook a character for a manual. Turns out the manual was fine. A great actor, and a Yorkshire kid who started as an obituary writer. Today the obituary is his. Make it so, Sir Patrick. Rest well.

I just found out that Sir Patrick Stewart has died. Here is a video he made on the advice he would give to his younger self. RIP

Absolutely gutted. RIP Sir Patrick. It doesn’t feel far off losing the Queen to be honest in regard to how much he’s been a constant presence and jewel in our cultural lives.
Patrick Stewart, who will be remembered most for his roles as Captain Jean-Luc Picard on “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and as Professor Charles Xavier in the “X-Men” films, has died at 86. variety.com/2026/tv/news/pat…

The single best joke in any Carry On film. “I tried it once and didn’t like it.”

Care more than is reasonable. Have enough pride in what you make to go deep on it.

Cell phone addiction is an absolute thermonuke to the brain and nobody 'takes it seriously' because it is not clear that there is any solution in a world where the revealed preference of everyone across the globe, regardless of income, race, age, any factor whatsoever, would rather be on their phone than do *anything* else. Deciding "I use this too much" and meaningfully altering one's behaviour doesn't seem to have much success for any of the very small minority of people with the sentience or self-reflection to realize how bad it is. Most people seem to think of it as an unproductive habit at most, rather than an addiction. Any attempt to speak seriously about this is met with derision, accusations of pretentiousness. There is no real solution to it. The future of human cognition fifty years down the line is horrifying if you stop and think about it for even a moment.
