Hakeem Jeffries, the Democratic minority leader from New York, is set to make history as the first Black Speaker of the US House of Representatives.
He is expected to take the role after Democrats secured a majority in the House following a disappointing Midterm election for Republicans.
Jeffries, who succeeded Nancy Pelosi as Party Leader, is expected to be formally elected in January, although the process could face challenges, as Kevin McCarthy’s 2023 election required 15 rounds of voting.
