Update from the Liquid Federation: The Liquid Federation is pleased to announce that the network’s bitcoin reserves have been fully restored, reestablishing 1:1 BTC backing for all LBTC. This follows the restoration of BTC<>LBTC swaps several weeks ago, which have since allowed users to move between Bitcoin and Liquid at a 1:1 rate through participating swap providers. Together, these milestones represent significant progress in the Federation’s recovery efforts and reaffirm its commitment to the long-term security, stability and resilience of the Liquid Network. As always, the network’s bitcoin reserves are independently verifiable. Users operating their own Liquid nodes can directly verify the Federation’s Proof of Reserves, while reserve balances and network activity can be monitored through the public dashboard at liquid.network. We extend our sincere appreciation to the Bitcoin community, Liquid users, and ecosystem partners for their patience, understanding, and continued engagement throughout the recovery process. Your support and involvement has been instrumental as we worked to restore the network’s reserves and strengthen its underlying infrastructure. Strengthening the Liquid Network for the Future Looking ahead, the Federation is advancing several important initiatives designed to strengthen the network’s long-term security, governance, and operational resilience. These efforts include modernizing the governance structure, introducing clearer responsibilities and oversight, and implementing additional technical and operational safeguards to further protect the network and its participants. More details on these initiatives and the Federation’s next steps will be shared in the coming weeks. Restoring full bitcoin backing marks an important milestone, but our work continues. The Federation remains committed to building on the progress of recent years, advancing Liquid’s development, and strengthening the network’s resilience and accessibility for all participants.

Frog put the keys in the HSM. "There" he said "now we cannot leak the private key". "But our servers can ask the box to sign with the key" said Toad. "that is true" said Frog

Binance's initial investigation suggests that the security incident may involve a compromised DevOps engineer’s laptop, which allowed an attacker to gain access to a service container and submit unauthorized withdrawal transactions. We have found no evidence of any wallet private key leak. We will share a detailed technical post-mortem once the investigation is complete and the facts are fully verified. The estimated total impact sits at around $6.3B. We have worked with blockchain partners to freeze affected assets, with ~$3 billion frozen on-chain so far. Binance will cover all losses from the SAFU fund and the company’s funds. User funds are safe. We will also publish an updated Proof of Reserves once the remediation is complete. As an immediate precaution, Binance has: - temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals while security checks are completed; - revoked the affected address authorisation; - engaged law enforcement and blockchain intelligence partners to trace and recover funds. Our teams are working around the clock to resolve this issue safely and thoroughly. We are working closely with our law enforcement partners to confirm the identity of these criminals and bring them to justice. Please rely only on official Binance channels for updates. Please feel free to contact Binance Customer Support if you have any further questions. binance.com/en/support/annou…

Update regarding our ongoing investigation and exposed PII from a subset of customers.
INVESTIGATION UPDATE 2 In our last update, we said we would share how many people had personal information exposed once we could confirm it. We can now share those numbers. Across our old WooCommerce store and our current Shopify store, records containing approximately 5,600 mailing addresses and 5,200 phone numbers, along with names and email addresses, were held in systems the attackers were able to reach. We cannot say for certain whether the attackers accessed all of these records, so we are treating all of them as potentially exposed. These records are a subset of our total customers. Why the data was still there: In our last update, we explained that copies of orders remained in old database tables after past migrations. We have since found that the 60-day redaction also did not cover every type of order, and that some customer details were stored in other parts of the store, such as abandoned carts and contact forms, that redaction never reached. Addresses not in our records: More than 5,000 of the email addresses that received phishing emails do not appear in our WooCommerce or Shopify customer records. Some match our support and hiring inboxes. Together with reports of details that were never shared with us, this makes us confident the attackers also used data from outside Foundation. We are still tracing where these addresses came from. What we are doing: Out of an abundance of caution, we are rotating all keys and secrets across our systems, including those we have no evidence were accessed. We are keeping a single copy of the legacy WooCommerce data offline as evidence for the investigation. Once the investigation is complete, that data will be permanently deleted. We have found no evidence that this incident compromised Passport devices or the private keys they hold. Never enter your recovery phrase into a website or share it with anyone, including someone claiming to be Foundation. We will continue sharing confirmed findings and publish our full report when the investigation is complete.

Happy to finally publish this! BitVM has come a long way, and now permissionless bridges can finally be practical with Argo. Credit to @therealyingtong for the implementation. Almost certainly the last all-natural, organic, AI-free project we will work on.
Excited to open-source Argo! The most practical trust-minimized Bitcoin bridging: • Setup time: ~100ms • Offchain cost: ~10MB • Onchain cost: ~$8 🤖 Throw your clankers at it and help us harden it github.com/idealgroup/argo?_

I would like to have a word with whoever decided to redefine the word "vault" from "super secure place where your money sits and does nothing" to "super promiscuous liquid account where anyone can take a piece of your stack in exchange for a few bps"
Kraken (@krakenfx) offers APY on your Bitcoin and they call it their "Vault" It's actually less safe than just using their regular account: "Kraken's Vault actually uses wrapped Bitcoin, decentralized lending protocols, borrowed stablecoins, and leverage to generate yield." 🧐

Following recent supply-chain incidents, we decided to reduce the number of resellers so we can more effectively check those we work with. Let us be very clear: there is not a single piece of evidence that Trezor devices have been compromised. This is a preventive step, taken out of an abundance of caution. We also want to thank everyone involved for the cooperation, and for the years of work putting Trezor in people’s hands.
To the resellers who helped build Trezor: thank you, and I’m sorry 💔

Stoked to announce this! Zark is a transfer-of-ownership protocol that collapses offchain histories into compact zero-knowledge proofs. Previous bitcoin l2 implementations have shown that co-signers can be blinded and unaware of what they’re signing. In some designs, users validate the history of offchain coins they receive. Zark compresses these histories into recursive zero-knowledge proofs. A side effect is that this removes the need for users to learn who a coin’s previous owners are. Zark is based on the statechain paradigm. It enables users to transfer ownership of bitcoin UTXOs offchain with the help of a co-signer. In Zark, users can also engage in offchain coinswaps to transfer ownership for bitcoin UTXOs for other bitcoin UTXOs. We’re looking at adding support to swaps against tokens on alternative networks, like we did in our bitcoin dark pools demo with @mercurylayer. Current research areas for us: - Leaf splitting while retaining privacy for branches - Scalability! - Optimizing zk-circuits and proving system Circuits are written in @noirlang.

context:
Ledger is investigating reports of loss of funds from users in South East Asia who purchased products from a reseller named CryptoBillis. As a precaution, and pending the results of our investigation, we have asked CryptoBilis to pause all sales and shipments of Ledger devices. We recommend Ledger users who purchased from this reseller in the last 90 days to not initiate set up if you have not done so yet. If you have set up your Ledger device, consider moving assets to a new Ledger signer (with new seed). We will continue to inform customers of updates as the investigation progresses. Reach out to Ledger customer support through official channels with any questions: support.ledger.com/

Europe supply chain appears compromised as well 👀
UPDATE: I can confirm that the Ledger supply chain is compromised in Europe as well. @Ledger should initiate an immediate product recall to protect users. I just purchased a second device from a different Mediamarkt location today, recorded the unboxing process, and discovered spyware once again (video linked in the second tweet). The device was compromised in the exact same manner, featuring identical modifications (such as additional cables and an LTE module). This indicates its a widespread issue rather than an isolated incident, potentially affecting Ledger inventory across MediaMarkt and Saturn stores throughout Europe (comprising over 1,000 stores across 11 countries). My initial hypothesis was that these devices were returns that looked unopened to the employees and were just sold again as new however, a MediaMarkt employee confirmed that the device I purchased was not a return, and that returned Ledgers are sent directly back to the manufacturer rather than resold. Store records show the inventory originated from Aqipa GmbH. While Ledger's CTO was unsure if Aqipa serves as the direct distributor between Ledger and MediaMarkt, it appears to be the case. Given that Aqipa distributes across Europe, any physical retail store receiving stock through them may be at risk. I sent the first ledger to mark and the second one is going to ledger now, so that they can analyse it. If you purchased a ledger from anyone other than the official ledger store, make sure to check your device!!
