I keep getting pitched on studies and reports or policy proposals, offering “exclusives” in exchange for having like 2-3 days to write it. This is bad PR strategy! Get in touch much earlier if you’re actually serious about coverage. And assume we are already in the middle of something, can’t just abandon that assignment, and probably have our next story lined up too. Offering a coverage opportunity but with no time to really report on it signals to me you don’t want serious engagement and want to shape it as a press release. Maybe that is what you want but odds of getting a yes dramatically lower

A lot of the online debates over what counts as moderate or progressive are a bit colored by 2019-era discourse, when it was en vogue in some circles to label Klobuchar a conservative and Warren a moderate. But there are also interesting philosophical questions at play. Talarico ran on being way tougher on immigration than Michael Bloomberg in 2020 — and on being way, way to the left economically of him. Josh Turek is more conservative on trans issues than Kyrsten Sinema — and also supports prescription drug caps she opposed. It matters a lot what metric you use to define ideology, and it's never been more three-dimensional
If tonight was such a win for moderates, why do all the ‘moderates’ sound like Bernie circa 2016?

Jennifer Welch: “I want to say this Chuck Schumer: we won in spite of you and we will do everything on this channel, everything, to make sure that you are not the Senate Majority Leader. You do not represent us. You’ve made it crystal clear who your loyalties are to. What you did to Angie Nixon, I will never ever forgive you. Quit taking victory laps on Twitter like you won this. Nobody likes you”

But it’s a very concerning trend that both Democrats and a Republicans are restricting press access to voters. If you’re working a campaign you believe in, you should want reporters talking to supporters who also believe in your candidate.

I spent last night with Democrats in my hometown, in one of Iowa’s many river counties — which pivoted from Obama to Trump in 2016. Democrats here have not experienced joy in a while. It was interesting to watch them process the results: theatlantic.com/politics/202…

The Midwest is back on the map for Democrats. But what the party does next matters: “This is not a coronation of the Democratic Party,” one IA Democrat told me. It is an expression of frustration from voters looking for something different. “Our problem will be creating that something different.”

New from me: For voters across the political spectrum, concern over immigration was no longer an abstract debate about the southern border. Federal operations in cities, suburbs and rural job sites had brought the issue to the doorsteps of many Americans. nytimes.com/2026/11/04/us/im…

Watch for a speech like you've never seen before. There's no place like Kansas, and with his historic win, this pastor is headed to Washington to fight for it. Congratulations Senator-elect Adam Hamilton.

“The new right in power was a force for libertinism, with corruption in Washington, D.C., going hand in hand with policies that favored vice. The pro-life movement vanished, the quest for pro-family policy was stillborn, and the idea of a new patriotic elite for a new America dissolved into a grifter’s mindset, leering side-eyed at Sydney Sweeney’s bust. Any religious revival in the wider culture probably helped elect religious Democrats, not a sinful-seeming GOP.”
