My friend James Manyika has been awarded the W.E.B. Du Bois Medal, Harvard's highest honour in African and African American studies.
On Thursday night at Sanders Theatre, Strive Masiyiwa, himself a 2024 medallist, presented it to him. One Zimbabwean honouring another.
James is Senior Vice President at Google-Alphabet, leading research in AI, computing and science. I remember him in my office in Harare over coffee, talking AI and autonomous vehicles.
It all began with a first-class engineering degree at the University of Zimbabwe, then Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar.
He now stands with Muhammad Ali, John Lewis, Toni Morrison, Maya Angelou, Harry Belafonte and Wole Soyinka.
Zimbabwe has never been short of talent.
Congratulations, my friend. You make us proud.
