Le racisme ne semble aller que dans un sens.
Four of the five men arrested in connection with the brutal farm attack in Syferfontein, in South Africa’s North West province, appeared in court on charges of attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and illegal possession of a firearm.
The fifth man arrested will be a state witness, according to provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Adams.
Last week, 50-year-old cattle farmer Donovan Marx was brutally tortured during an attack on his farm.
During the attack, Marx had both ears cut off, was severely beaten, shot in the back, and stabbed in the leg. According to Agri North West deputy chairperson André Strydom, the attackers also attempted to mutilate his genitals.
Marx underwent emergency surgery and is currently in critical but stable condition. Police have now arrested five suspects in connection with the attack.
Following the attack, a member of South Africa’s parliament, Andile Mngxitama, celebrated the vicious assault in a post on X, in which he declared that “attacking the ears is symbolic to denote the refusal of land thieves to listen” and “No land no peace.”
The South African government still denies that there is a racial element to farm murders.
