As the debate continues about "Pay" as a Doctor- the eternal question is whether being a Doctor is a vocation- or a job. The key-in my view- is that's not wrong to view it as either. Or to believe it's mutually exclusive. Via @bmj_latest bmj.com/content/368/bmj.m227

A single example. There will be many thousands out there. Dangerous, treatment delayed, waste of time and resources. Thousands of doctors are telling @NHSEngland and @wesstreeting this is wrong, but they are not listening.
PA reads ‘coronary artery calcification’ on a CT report of an elderly lady, tells the patient she has aortic stenosis & refers to cardiology to manage the aortic stenosis Encapsulating the inefficiencies & disregard for patient safety PAs represent: And some House GIFs 1/n 🧵

Interesting that I think it's the same judge who heard my case. Where my email account was erased pre hearing, evidence & statements withheld, witnesses intimidated, statements hidden & myself threatened & intimidated to try & force me to drop the case. There's an article here...

The ambiguity is obvious and predictable - @RCPhysicians should either preserve MRCP as a title for those who have passed their exams and give those affiliated a different category of connection - or change the name of the exam and call people who pay fees members

Treachery within?
It is a "scandal" that, at a time when patients are crying out for doctors, so many newly-qualified GPs cannot find work - @rcgp figures show that the average unemployed newly-qualified GP has applied for 13 jobs 😭😭😭 Audible murmur of shock in the auditorium #RCGPAC #RCGPAC2

Appalling weasels. So angry. And we pay for this travesty. All that is wrong in corrupted UK.
🚨 @gmcuk have refused the subject access request. Seems legal action is the only way forward… @drmattuk @Art_Li @AnaesUnited @TheDA_UK “Several hundred individuals have made use of that tool to send identical SARs to us around the same time.  We received your SAR as part of this campaign. In the context of this campaign, we will not be acting on your SAR. This is because, in accordance with Article 12(5) of the UK GDPR, we believe that your SAR is both manifestly unfounded and manifestly excessive. The reasons for our position are as follows. Your SAR – and specifically the information you have requested concerning your consultation submission – has not been made for the purposes at which the SAR regime under Article 15 of the UK GDPR is aimed. For example, it is notable from the text accompanying the automated tool (set out above) that the purposes of the high volume of SARs that individuals have been encouraged to send are not concerned with individuals’ data protection or privacy rights. Our position is that SARs of this kind are manifestly unfounded. Your SAR is part of a wider campaign by which a very large volume of SARs generated by the automated tool have been sent to us around the same time and in identical terms. This has placed a disproportionate administrative burden on our resources. When taken together with the other identical SARs, the burden imposed by dealing individually with each request would be manifestly excessive. Please note further that, based on a preliminary review of a sample of the SARs submitted as part of this campaign, it appears the vast majority of individuals who have made SARs either did not provide their full name and email address when responding to the consultation, they responded anonymously, or alternatively, may not have responded to the public consultation at all. These requests place a significant burden on the GMC for reasons that are not aligned with the purposes of individual rights. For those reasons, your SAR is refused under Article 12(5) of the UK GDPR.”

When @RCPhysicians @gmcuk and others dismiss social media and anonymous accounts they fail to understand that it's @Mike88881221 and others like @ExplosiveEnema2 @Xeon4f145d96s1 @Dr_Done_ @medicalmodelbri and numerous others that have uncovered serious issues of patient safety and provided the evidence for this. Saying as a Royal College that these issues haven't been reported to you so they don't matter is no longer good enough @trishgreenhalgh @drmattuk @DrEilidhMaria @tris @djnicholl @TYoungstein @DaganLonsdale @doctor_oxford

Surely these children, who will have been referred by GPs other Drs and senior clinicians, don’t need another person with limited qualifications reviewing their need for surgery, they need senior Paediatric Surgeons assessments? Am I wrong🤷🏻‍♂️

Would an F1 be leading surgery clinics in paediatrics at the end of a 4 month rotation? So why is a PA who does not even have a medical degree? Remember this is an org where the chair has been part of cover ups like the Mid Staffs 🤮

The NHS will have only PAs. Think turning a restaurant into a burger van with no regulation of food hygiene. Or cooks. It won’t end. That’s the role of the PA. I’m sure they have listed roles and roles beyond their scope. But they’re well paid degraders. In this guise.
Dear 🇬🇧, Enough is enough. It’s time to end the Physician Associate (PA) role in the NHS. Here’s why and here’s how. When you need to see your family doctor, you deserve to see an expert clinician rapidly. But the @Conservatives believe otherwise and it’s a key component of their assault on the NHS, so let’s talk about PAs and how this govt is using them to replace your GP. Purely to put staff in seats to appear to fix the general practice crisis they created, this Tory govt is paying to pack your GP surgeries with Physician Associates (non-doctors with only 2 years of training) whilst forcing GPs (experienced doctors with 10 years of training) out of jobs, out of the profession, and out of the country. The current situation is dangerous and unsafe for you as patients, dangerous for PAs and Doctors burdened with managing their risk, and it’s profoundly dangerous for the future of the NHS. It has already led to increases in patient deaths, patient injuries, malpractice lawsuits, and is a massive waste of money as PAs see far fewer patients per shift and order far more tests than a trained GP. We’re on a dangerous path right now and the smartest option to protect patients and save taxpayer money, in the long run, is to urgently reverse course. I therefore believe that the Physician Associate role should be entirely scrapped from the NHS, that current PAs should receive minimum two years of extra medical training paid entirely by the NHS while they continue to work in specified roles that are safe and appropriate for their training. Once they have passed medical exams, and they should be given multiple opportunities to do so, they should be awarded a medical degree and re-enter the workforce as newly qualified, and heavily regulated, F1 doctors. PAs are well-intentioned and intelligent people who have only wanted to help patients, but their lack of training is feeding our Tory-made patient safety crisis and is the result of a govt that wants the NHS to fail and is looking only to cut costs and put staff in seats while not giving a damn about the long-term effect on your safety as a patient. Expertise matters. Expertise saves lives. Expertise saves money. And as an NHS patient and as a taxpayer, you deserve to see an expert when you visit your GP surgery. It’s time to demand nothing less. #SOSNHS

Here is what our legal case is about. Its not just about regulations and legislation. Its about real people; people that thought they were seeing a doctor but were actually seeing a Physician Associate. Please help us make a difference by a donation. crowdjustice.com/case/stop-m…

‘You don’t know what you don’t know’ The more training, the more study, the more time, the more known What you don’t know you don’t know, is the greatest risk to patient safety That’s why GP training is so challenging/complex/safety conscious GP trainer for 27yrs @wesstreeting
'She thought she was a doctor.' Marion and Brendan's daughter died as a direct result of being treated by a Physician Associate when she thought she was seeing a doctor. Emily had a blood clot in her calf but was sent away with a beta blocker & a diagnosis of long Covid. She died three weeks later. Emily's parents are calling for more clarity and regulation.

It's one of the least spoken about scandals of the previous government. The replacement of highly skilled, trained and experienced GPs, with PAs who have undertaken a two year course. This is leading to deaths, misdiagnoses and untold delays in the NHS. It needs to stop, now.
