sure $150 worth of spacex shares isn't a lot of money. but ownership matters!! if we want the next generation to be pro-progress, giving them a stake in American innovation is the best way to do that
SITUATION EXPLAINED: Elon Musk just pledged a SpaceX share to every kid in America, a giveaway worth over $10 billion. • He says this will be "the first of many" • At about $146 a share for roughly 72M kids, that’s about $10.5B, 1.5% of his roughly 4.8B SpaceX shares • That’s nearly double Michael Dell’s record $6.25B gift to Trump Accounts, the government-seeded investment accounts for kids • He hasn’t said who counts as a kid, whether noncitizens qualify, or how the shares get delivered • Much of the negativity around AI comes from people owning none of it, since top labs like OpenAI and Anthropic aren’t public • OpenAI and Google DeepMind could be next with their own wealth-sharing plans @sophiadew: "It’s not just about the money. You could argue, I don’t know, 150 bucks to every kid won’t do that much. It’s about ownership. When you have a stake in America, in innovation, in companies that are happening here, you start to see the world differently."

glad to cover @dreamlabs_ai de-stealthing with a $90m raise. @jang_yoel led world models @nvidia exciting to see a robot foundation model that controls robots it has never seen on tasks it was never shown, at $3/hour (16x cheaper - from @robocurve) thank you for coming on mts!
Dream Labs CEO @jang_yoel reveals how Dream-1 can control robots 16-40x cheaper than LLMs from the biggest AI labs: "It’s been five hours. Users from 22 different countries already signed up. They already made 70,000 inference calls to our model." "Dream-1 controls robots that are unseen for unseen tasks, and it’s very cheap. We did a comparison, and there’s other models that can control robots, including LLMs from the big labs, but we’re 16 to 40 times cheaper. We need a robot native robot foundation model." "We’ll go to mobile manipulation. Right now the robots can’t move around, but they’ll soon move around. Then dexterous hands once the hardware gets cheaper." @dreamlabs_ai

we can have fully trustworthy auditor models for swarm monitoring, we just need to use auditably trained models and store inference audit logs for verification
Gensyn CEO @benfielding warns that AI agents auditing other AI agents can be compromised too: "We create swarms of AI agents that can do far more work than any human could. A human can’t follow along and check everything. One of the big counters is to say that agents can do the verification." "But METR says those agents themselves can become corrupted by the training process, and you can’t trust any agent that’s auditing another agent. If you’ve trained a model in an auditable way, you can trust it." "Any claim where the model is hiding its chain of thought falls away, because you have an exact log of everything that’s happened, and you can rerun every single step on any device." "For national security, finance, pharma, health, insurance, it’s essential that they have models like these. If a regulator wanted to audit, they wouldn’t have to go off promises of the company." @gensynai

In Sarah We Trust!
Notion AI lead @sarahmsachs argues that a lot of what runs on GPUs today should actually run on CPUs: "We have a strong perspective at Notion that a lot of things should be served on CPU that are served on GPU. There’s a lot of benefit and determinism in executed code." "Agents don’t need LLMs to reinvent that process every time, and that’s super token exhaustive, it’s super slow, and there’s no observability or determinism in it." "Giving the agent a local file system to store local thoughts, to write short Python scripts, that’s really important when there’s so much information. That has been probably one of the most important tools outside of edit and search that our internal agents rely on." @NotionHQ

State machines existed for a reason. The rise of Jev has just shown us what we already know -- determinism is in again. LLM's need not make us forget that deployable software has a place. It's cheaper, higher quality, and faster. Ship was a great chance for us to collaborate with @vercel and promote that narrative. @rauchg , keep selling 'em CPUs.

Nearly every phone and computer on Earth relies on one plain-text file to know what time it is. When a country changes its clocks with a few weeks’ notice, or Morocco pauses daylight saving for Ramadan, someone has to update that file. Since 02005, that someone has been Paul Eggert, a computer science professor at UCLA, who does it as a volunteer.  Take a look at this great data visualization to see the full story:  na2.hubs.ly/H08qtQC0

Long local Superintelligence
Osmantic founder @TheAhmadOsman calls local AI "civilizational infrastructure" and explains why people are turning to it over fears of another Fable 5 incident: "This is civilizational infrastructure. The fact that some cloud companies think that they can gatekeep it is something that we shouldn’t be okay with." "People abroad, but also people even here that are worried about something like Fable 5 ever happening again." "The narrative about the cyber attacks, OpenAI agents that went out and hacked stuff. That’s a sandboxing issue. Open source AI is not the problem. GLM 5.2 helped Hugging Face protect themselves." "Enterprises that don’t wanna give away their data, and people that are worried about these models they are talking to that can just ban them and stop them from having access." @OsmanticAI

It’s incredible to have reached a threshold where it’s practical that AI will be better at training models than humans are so quickly. One day recursive self improvement feels far off, and the next we already have signs of what it will look like. Model capability finally exceeding most human engineers, advancements in the harness and infra for long running agents, a growing array of data, and the ability to parallelize the agents to work on vastly more tasks and tests and approaches than any person could have before, creates an incredible flywheel. This flywheel will almost certainly accelerate model progress far faster than we’ve seen before - or at a minimum enable pushing up the ceiling of the frontier at an insane rate. If you aren’t pricing in what RSI will lead to, that’s probably a mistake.
SITUATION DETECTED: Anthropic’s Head of Global Affairs Michael Sellitto has told the IMF that Anthropic projects Claude could lead 80-90% of frontier model training by next year, up from 3% in April.
