We would argue that the @dr_larryi method is superior because you can get an actual right atrial pressure value not just dilated or not dilated. In patient with large AP chest diameter, neck utlrasound alone will underestimate right atrial pressure. sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
#POCUS, or point-of-care ultrasound, can assess the internal jugular vein to estimate #JugularVenousPressure as an approximation of right atrial pressure. Jugular venous pressure can help identify volume overload using ultrasound assessment of the neck vessels. To assess #JugularVenousPressure with #POCUS, the patient is positioned with the head of bed elevated and the linear probe is placed above the clavicle between the bellies of the sternocleidomastoid muscle. The vertical height from the sternal angle to the point where the internal jugular vein tapers is measured to calculate jugular venous pressure. 📌 Learn more: ja.ma/47DyMYr

Physics is hard to visualize through static images alone, so I turned my 174 pages of high school physics notes into an interactive website. It covers mechanics, electricity, and magnetism, breaking down complex concepts into intuitive visualizations, real-world scenarios, and interactive problems. In January 2025 my mom’s lung cancer spread to her brain. The drug with the best chance of helping her was approved in China but not here. A doctor told me, almost as an aside, that if she were Chinese she could buy it at a pharmacy. So I flew to Shanghai and came home with 26 boxes in my luggage. That was 19 months ago. My mom is still here, still working, and in her words has had an amazing three years. The drug was approved in China in 2023. The FDA approved it in July 2025. It still is not for sale here. I know of at least 30 Americans who have made the same trip. I have been scared to tell this story because I worried it could cost my mom access to the medicine keeping her alive. But the problem matters more than my silence. These drugs need to be developed and available here, and that means FDA reform. Art Allen at KFF Health News told our story this week. It also ran in The Washington Post. kffhealthnews.org/health-ind…

We have now more than 2900 images in the FREE Ultrasound Image Database flickr.com/photos/127475534@…
It’s an honor to promote free education in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (#MSUS) and Rheumatology. We are happy to share the MSUS Database: over 1,000 images and videos of sonoanatomy and pathology, accessible with a single click from anywhere in the world 🌍 🌎 , even where there’s no textbook, mentor, or ultrasound machine, so students, residents, and practicing physicians can learn and compare cases in real time. In the MSUS Database you will find: 1️⃣Shoulder Anatomy and Pathology 2️⃣Elbow Anatomy and Pathology 3️⃣Hand Anatomy and Pathology 4️⃣Hip Anatomy and Pathology 5️⃣Knee Anatomy and Pathology 6️⃣Foot Anatomy and Pathology 7️⃣Spine 8️⃣Soft Tissue 9️⃣Nerves 🔟Muscle 1️⃣1️⃣Interventional 1️⃣2️⃣Hyaluronic Acid 1️⃣3️⃣PRP 1️⃣4️⃣Doppler 1️⃣5️⃣Elastography 1️⃣6️⃣Trauma 1️⃣7️⃣Rheumatoid Arthritis 1️⃣8️⃣CPPD 1️⃣9️⃣And more… 📸 🎥 We’re expanding this library every week to its improvement! 🤝🌍 Special thanks to Giorgio Tamborrini of UZR Ultrasound Center (@rheumatology) for conceiving and leading this project and inviting me to contribute. This is how a pathologist can now discuss slides and analyses with a multimodal pathology foundation model that connects whole-slide image representations with pathology reports and clinical concepts! (The music is loud; feel free to mute it.) "Here we present WILSON, a vision--language foundation model that represents whole-slide images and multi-slide cases as single multi-magnification composite images, trained on approximately 189k slides from Mayo Clinic spanning 42 organs and 829 diagnostic entities using pathology reports as supervision." It could serve as an interactive AI assistant for pathologists! Preprint URL: arxiv.org/abs/2609.25123

Thanks for following my cancer journey, it has been quite the ride! I’m 16 months cancer free now. I view two people as my cofounders on the journey of going ‘founder mode’ on my cancer. These are Jose M. Mejia Oneto, who was in my YC batch of W15 with Shasqi doing cancer therapies, and became my best friend! And @JAC0BSTERN who I met through Jose and who left his job in biotech to become ‘CEO of my health’. After we made progress on my disease we started creating companies to make the latest scientific advances more accessible to others. We’ve started 15 companies in the last year and a half under the Even One Ventures umbrella, see evenone.ventures/ for more information.

Consent✅ Tennis player, 30s Forceful forehand with rapid thoracic rotation 2 years ago - immediate stabbing thoracic pain Aggravated by L rotation, TSp extension, lying supine / rolling over in bed, deep inspiration Pain now become more diffuse, symmetrical, paraspinal Described as 'burning' MRI normal POCUS video - Subtle degenerative changes at left T7 costotransverse joint - correlates with area of maximal pain (notable paraspinal hyperalgesia even with very gentle probe pressure) US guided LA / CSI injection abolished pain (patient stated 'thats my pain!' when the needle tip hit the joint) on repeat clinical testing & patient's own functional tests post procedure Pearls - 1. As always the history and exam trumps everything - rotation mechanism of injury, rotational provocation, rib compression, inspiration..... it has to be rib joint related 2. MRI often unhelpful when assessing the small joints in detail - CT better. POCUS can pick up subtle degenerative / calcific changes once the pain epicentre has been identified with systematic palpation 2. Paraspinal muscle over-activity and spread of pain (which can take on a 'neural' quality) is almost inevitable secondary to the underlying primary issue / injury - don't be distracted by this.

FDA approved daraxonrasib…. One of oncology’s oldest walls just cracked…
This is not simply a new pancreatic cancer drug. It is a reminder that even “undruggable” biology can become treatable with persistence. Daraxonrasib doubled median OS vs chemotherapy in RAS G12 metastatic pancreatic cancer: 13.2 vs 6.6 months. Pericardial effusions have long been described in millimeters. But when the clinical question is fluid burden, a single linear dimension may not be enough. In our new JASE editorial with David Dudzinski, we discuss the practice-changing work by Kane et al. and the accompanying tutorial, which challenge us to rethink how we quantify pericardial effusions by echo. The key shift: From a single maximal width to a more integrated assessment of volume, distribution, phenotype, and physiology. Milliliters may bring us closer to the anatomic truth. But tamponade remains a physiologic diagnosis. Free access: authors.elsevier.com/c/1nexw… #EchoFirst #CardioTwitter #PericardialDisease #JASE
