I caught up on Friday with my friend and business partner Anatole @kaletsky for our weekly Gavekal zoominar. We were supposed to discuss how sustainable the AI capex spending boom would prove to be in the face of rapidly rising corporate bond yields? But given the headlines on France, on the Middle-East and on the growing likelihood of a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine, we struggled to stay on track… I asked the @gavekal editors to remove the locks on the podcast… research.gavekal.com/content…

🛑 The ECB can buy bonds of a euro zone country on the secondary market if their prices move in an unjustified way to protect the proper transmission ‌of monetary policy. BUT OFFICIALS SAID THIS DID NOT COVER WHAT WAS HAPPENING IN FRANCE.

Could it be that markets in this case are rational and more forward looking than rating agencies?

We made the first AI model you can have a realistic conversation with that was trained entirely on speech! Dessa is a full-duplex speech-to-speech model that you can run on consumer GPUs. This is a GPT3 moment for speech.

We believe voice is the most natural way to interact with intelligence, so we created Dessa, the most authentic full-duplex speech model ever built. Talking with it feels like talking with a person…full of emotion, nuance, pauses, and a natural cadence. block.xyz/dessa

Every Mac on macOS 27 now has a free LLM built into the Terminal. No account. No API key. No internet. No token bill. Setup (1 minute): 1. sudo fm license (enter your Mac password, one time) 2. fm available (checks the model is downloaded) 3. fm respond “your question” Works on any Apple Silicon Mac, M1 included. - Pipe files: cat notes.txt | fm respond -i “summarize this” - Get JSON back: build a schema with fm schema object, pass it with --schema - Local API: fm serve gives you an OpenAI-compatible endpoint on localhost - Resume chats: sessions save to ~/.fm/sessions/ The limit is 4,096 tokens per session, and your prompt, instructions, and the answer all share it. So skip code and math. Use it for summarizing, extracting, classifying, and rewriting. Free, private, offline, and already on your Mac.

The 8192 core CPU I'm building at @uscompco will, aside from being absurdly high performance, also have some very strong sandboxing and security features. For example, with a short pipeline and a few other small changes, branch prediction becomes unnecessary for high performance, eliminating entire classes of speculation-based security vulnerabilities. Furthermore, all those vulnerabilities from context switches creating shared resources between multiple programs? Gone too. With 8k cores, everything just has its own cores, no context switches, only packets. We can even achieve a lot of sandboxing and isolation with the majority of on-chip packets.

I highly recommend cloudflare's security audit skill: github.com/cloudflare/securi… Run it on all your software. Run it with the free models. Use it even if you used a model to audit something - it will find much more things. Works in all agent harnesses and is model independent.
