Where others see low effort I see people hungry to realize their visions, experiment with new workflows and improve. Despite what these crybabies will have you believe, AI can be a tremendous learning companion and it’s the future of building. Keep on shipping 🥳

White colored gunballs are supposed to be vanilla. You are seeking alpha colored gumballs, they are flavorless.

Once again, the smartest people in the room have rational takes on AI. Game developers who are against what @TimSweeneyEpic is doing, take note: Linux maintainers have declared that LLM usage is no longer required to be declared. Linus Torvalds calls a ban on AI 'utterly stupid'. Linus adds, "Quite honestly, in my experience, the people I respect and call intelligent are not the ones that shy away from using new and interesting tools."

It’s a shockingly smaller relevant state space than we previously thought. For example, the fact that we can have a high quality generative image model in the same space as 1000 photos says there is far more regularity than anyone imagined.

Epic’s entire business model is “we do well when you do well.” This is why criticism directed at Tim & Epic angers me. A lot.
Unreal Engine is what got me into game deving years ago. It opened the door to a world I always dreamed of being part of since I was a kid. Without people like @TimSweeneyEpic making tools like this freely accessible, many devs like me might never have taken that first step. Let's not forget Unity's pricing controversy a few years ago, which left devs questioning their trust in the company and considering alternatives like Unreal. Tim has helped build something that allows countless people to turn their ideas into actual games. That's why you should respect his vision, even if you don't agree with him on everything. I understand that some artists fear what AI could mean for their livelihoods but disagreeing with his views on AI doesn't erase what he has built or contributed to game development. You can challenge his opinion without pretending the man knows nothing about creating.

Since 2023, before Tim found the courage to speak up, I've held the same position as a game-industry account under my real name. 2024 and 2025 were a long winter of division, but now that spring has come and big names are starting to join in, I'm genuinely happy. That said, beyond MCP, please give us a UE CLI and a UE equivalent of bpy soon 😁

Developers who are getting value from AI should speak up. There's safety in numbers. MOST developers are doing it and loving it - and if they're not talking about it it's mostly out of fear for haters attacking them, their product, and their company.

Sweeney invented the modern video game engine. The original “Unreal” was a masterpiece. Anyone attacking Sweeney for not being a “good programmer” is mad.
Tim Sweeney -> Self-taught programmer -> Designed three programming languages -> Wrote UnrealScript’s compiler and VM himself -> Building his latest, Verse, with the creator of Haskell and the co-creator of Scheme @TimSweeneyEpic is a pretty cracked programmer if you ask me.

I've been coding 3D since the 1990's, and made a rasterizer back in DOS. Was building out Degine by hand for 3 years (my GL game engine) and switched to GPT a few months ago, since this is just way too massive a project for 1 man. Ended up cracking GI in 3 days. No looking back.

One example. AI is accelerating tracing the root cause of reported bugs in our code base by a factor of 2x for the most complex scenarios and even more for simple bugs where it’s sometimes able to product a proposed fix that we verify. This is among the most horribly unfun part of all software development.

Actively looking for game devs who agree with this
The games we've long wanted, which didn't exist because they'd cost several times more to make than they'd earn back, will soon become possible. As will the games developers wanted to build, but couldn't with the resources available. It'll be a new golden age of gaming.

When Epic gets things wrong, we should call them out, but when they do something good, we should give them credit too. And honestly, aside from a few minor details, this Discovery design is by far the best one we’ve had so far. It looks amazing! Good job Epic 👏!

A lot of people are gonna try to sell you on the idea that "the journey and the process is what mattered and now that will all be lost". Maybe their grocery store takes payment in vibes? Mine seems to want money. The product is the product. Nothing else matters.

The only reason to be sad is that people like IndieGameJoe have opinions about some magical journey and stopping to smell the roses Idiot Joe dosn't get that roses don't plant themselves. The less time I spend on rose creation, the more i can spend on rose-sniffing.

I really like the asset flip analogy. There used to be a lot of asset flip slop, but then many skilled developers now also use asset stores assets to great effect. It's never just black or white, many shades between. No reason for sadness (yet). :)

Probably about time to just go back to using @cursor_ai as a billing hack to get cheap frontier credits. Every time I try to use @grok to "save credits because i dont need frontier intelligence for...." I end up wasting an hour and redoing it with claude anyway. Awful.
